New URL, same site.
The site Dean Giannini has created and maintained speaks for itself.
Truly, there is no need to say anything snarky or negative. We hear you. SSS has gotten off track. We need only show you the SILS site and you can see for yourself. You need only take a look at how long the site has looked like this and you can make up your own mind. We urge you to re-read Norman Oder’s LJ article about this blog and the Dean’s promise of a new site.
It is fair and appropriate to hold the Dean accountable for promises made. Unfortunately, it is also necessary to have a forum like this blog, not because we want to, but because we have to. It’s the only kind of forum we’re “allowed” at Pratt SILS – nameless, faceless, and free from the very real fear of retribution.
One last thing – don’t confuse the commenters with the creators of this blog. We aren’t the only ones who feel powerless and frustrated and that should mean something to those affiliated with Pratt SILS.
yes, as to the SILS site, the proof is in the pudding.
In the interests of civility, I will not respond in detail to the earlier posts, expect to write that those who have not voiced a complaint to the dean may not understand the frustration that some may feel. The dean offes lame excuses or indifference to complaints or concerns–at least in my experience.
have you tried going over the dean’s head? there has to be a way to rally support for the cause. anonymous comments just don’t gain traction; two semesters from now you’ll still be posting the same complaints to this blog and sils will still have the same pathetic site. the dean is on record saying a new site would be released June 2008. surely she can be held accountable by someone.
The new site just launched.

will you fulfill your promise and please remove this blog?
i’ve appreciated the fact that you’ve provided a platform for students to vent their frustraitions about the website, but this blog is honestly embarrassing for the school at this point.
Is the Pratt server down? I gave the new link a try to no avail. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.
I’m curious why this site is still up. Did you not promise to delete this site when the SILS site was redone. This is becoming as embarrassing as the SILS site.
There are still massive amounts of spelling errors on the new site. SSS should not come down until those are corrected. A SILS page that can’t be spell-checked? Raally?
” SILS students associations enrich student life with lecutres, worshops, library, and museum visites and other activities.”
There are still massive amounts of spelling errors on the new site. SSS should not come down until those are corrected. A SILS page that can’t be spell-checked? Really?
” SILS students associations enrich student life with lecutres, worshops, library, and museum visites and other activities.”
SPELLING ERRORS?! really? You’re going to keep this embarrassing blog up because of spelling errors?
Come on! The new site isn’t PERFECT, but at least it’s a DRASTIC improvement. Get over the details and look at the bigger picture already.
This blog the third link on a Google search for “Pratt SILS” and it makes the school look really bad. SILS has a new site, now meet your promise of “when the SILS site is redone, this site is deleted.”
Unadulterated words, some truthful words man. You rocked my day.
I have been thinking about applying to the program but was wondering if I was the only who noticed the poor website design until I found this blog. Visually it is much better than before but it doesn’t reflect well on the school to have so many mistakes, spelling or otherwise. I will attend if I am accepted but there is a part of me that hesitates because if the school has such low standards for its website, the quality of the education must be also be lacking.
I’ll let you in on a little tip. Graduate school is what you make of it: no more, no less. If you’re hard working, then don’t let the site deter you. You’ll be fine.
Let it be what we make of it, but this is a charming email I got from the office today:
Dear Students,
You are receiving this email because you are the last 5 students to register for LIS 697-5, Rare Books. This class is held off campus and can only accommodate 15 students. Please drop the course.
Dean Giannini recommends that a good replacement would be LIS 686-1, Performing Arts Librarianship which deals with special collection materials in the collection of the library. If not, please register for another available course.
Thank you.
So, because Pratt fucked up registration and put the cap higher than it is, students are being screwed. This is my last opportunity to take the class since I’m finally graduating in May, and Pratt is continuing to screw me right to the end. Every semester has been a new kind of shitshow, especially as regards registration, I’m tired of the BS and the runaround, I will never tell anyone to attend this program. And thank for the recc, Tula, totally helpful.
Tula needs to go. She is not competent, nor does she give a crap about the students.
